Development Timeline

The Accessible Teaching Toolkit was developed through an iterative process co-led by Student Experience’s Accessibility at Western Project Portfolio and the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

The project brought together contributors from the Centre for Teaching and Learning, Student Experience, Western Libraries, Western Technology Services, the Office of the Vice-Provost (Academic Programs), and several academic disciplines, including Anthropology, Disability Studies, English, French, Speech-Language Pathology and Writing. This cross-campus approach brought together pedagogical knowledge, accessibility expertise, institutional experience, and perspectives from different teaching contexts.

Accessible Teaching Toolkit Project Development Timeline
Period Focus
Fall 2025 Initiation and scoping: Established the cross-campus project group, identified different orientations to accessibility and disability from project team members, clarified the toolkit’s purpose and audiences, reviewed the proposed postsecondary education standards recommendations and related evidence, examined existing resources, and identified priority teaching practices.
Winter-Spring 2026 Collaborative development: Drafted the initial suite of practice-based tip sheets, completed a two-pass internal review, and developed the toolkit’s shared structure, framing, and terminology.
Summer 2026 Broader review and digital development: Refined the glossary and supporting content; and began accessible website development with the Instructional Technology Resource Centre.
Fall 2026 Finalization and launch planning: Engaged academic leaders, committees, students, staff, faculty and other educators; consolidation of feedback, final content revisions, accessibility and usability validation, website finalization, launch, and transition to ongoing stewardship and continuous improvement.
